AIMPERA is a private investment firm founded in 2018 by Managing Partners Matt Carbone, Ryan Barnes, and Ed Leung. The AIMPERA team has worked to develop a results-driven, entrepreneurial, and forward-thinking culture underpinned by partnership, collaboration, and transparency. AIMPERA manages over $625 million in AUM [1] across its flagship fund, a single asset vehicle, and coinvestment funds.

Ryan Barnes is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of AIMPERA Capital Partners. Ryan has 25+ years of experience in private equity, corporate finance, fund management, and operations. He has helped lead and actively manage investments in industries such as marinas, education infrastructure (schools), wildland firefighting, fuel distribution, manufactured housing communities, renewable fuels, and waste management. Ryan’s past experience includes leadership roles at multibillion-dollar global asset management firms and investment banks where he focused on direct investments, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, leveraged finance, and corporate development. Ryan received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Asian Languages from Stanford University where he was also the co-captain of the wrestling team.

Ryan currently serves on the boards of Novilla RNG and American Aviation Holdings (Chairman). Former boards include Safe Harbor Marinas (Chairman), Flagship Communities (Chairman), American Education Properties (Chairman), Empire Petroleum Partners (Chairman), Inspire Communities (Chairman) and Tunnel Hill Partners.

Ryan is currently a member of the Stanford Athletic Board.

Matt Carbone is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of AIMPERA Capital Partners. As a financial services entrepreneur with 30+ years of experience, Matt helps scale and grow organizations by partnering with management teams, boards of directors, and industry participants. He has helped lead and actively manage investments in essential industries such as renewable energy, temperature-controlled warehousing, distributed power generation, telecommunication infrastructure, and waste management. He began his career in investment banking with a focus on growth companies and financial sponsors. Matt received his Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Amherst College and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Matt currently serves on the boards for Agile Cold Storage (Co-Chairman), Novilla RNG (Chairman), American Aviation Holdings, and Unison Energy (Chairman). Former boards include CitySwitch, Landmark Dividend (Chairman), Landmark Infrastructure Partners (Chairman), Safe Harbor Marinas (Co-Chairman), Tunnel Hill Partners, Nordic Cold Storage (Chairman), Inspire Communities, Oxford Resource Partners, American Midstream Partners, Petropoint Energy Partners, and Arrow Material Services.

Matt is Chair of The Buck Institute for Research on Aging and a Trustee for the Paul P. Carbone, M.D. Memorial Foundation. He previously served as a past President of the Board of San Francisco General Hospital Foundation, Treasurer for FIRESafe Marin, and as a member of the Guardsmen, a San Francisco charity serving the city’s underprivileged youth through outdoor activities and access to education.

Ed Leung is a Co-Founder, Managing Partner, and the ESG Officer of AIMPERA Capital Partners. He has 20+ years of investing, M&A and corporate finance experience in a broad range of industries. Ed has helped lead and actively manage investments in industries such as temperature-controlled warehousing facilities, telecom infrastructure, manufactured housing communities, education infrastructure (schools), and waste management. His past experience includes helping to source and execute investments in private technology and energy technology companies at a venture capital firm. He began his career in investment banking with a focus on real estate, lodging, and leisure. Ed received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Ed currently serves on the boards of Agile Cold Storage and Crosstown Fiber (Chairman). Former boards include CitySwitch (Chairman), Landmark Dividend, Landmark Infrastructure Partners, Flagship Communities, Inspire Communities, Arrow Material Services, Nordic Cold Storage, and American Education Properties.

Dean Shin has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance, accounting and operations. He joined from 1Sharpe Capital, a residential mortgage real estate investment management firm, where he served as CFO. Previously, Dean was the CFO of FiveTen Capital, an early adopter in the single-family rental space and the initial portfolio for Cerberus’ FirstKey Homes. Dean began his career at Banc of America Securities’ Real Estate, Lodging and Leisure Investment Banking Group. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Boston College.

Jaclyn Sene joined in 2023 from Redesign Health, a healthcare venture capital firm. Previously, Jaclyn was Director of Investor Relations at Third Point, a New York-based investment management firm, where she helped drive strategy and execution for investor relations, marketing, business development, and communications for nearly a decade. Jaclyn started her career in the Alternative Investments Solutions division of State Street Corporation. She received a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology from Boston University.

Michael Mocharla joined in 2020 from Morgan Stanley Energy Partners where he was an Associate responsible for sourcing, execution, portfolio company management and strategy spanning the entirety of the energy infrastructure industry. Previously, he was an Associate at AIM.  Michael started his career as an Analyst in the Energy Investment Banking Group of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co in Houston.  He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. 

Michael currently serves on the board of Novilla RNG.

Robert Moore joined in 2022 from Generate Capital, a sustainable investment company. Previously, he was on the investment team at AIM. Robert began his career as an investment banking analyst at Houlihan Lokey and The Armory Group (fka The Seaport Group). He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

Robert currently serves on the board of American Aviation Holdings.

Anthony Prousis joined in 2023 after receiving his MBA from the Chicago Booth School of Business. Previously, he was a Senior Associate at Winona Capital responsible for sourcing, execution and portfolio company management across the consumer space. Anthony began his career as an Analyst in the Consumer Investment Banking Group of BMO Capital Markets in Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Northwestern University.

Jonathan Ennin joined in 2023 from Perella Weinberg Partners where he executed transactions in technology mergers and acquisitions. He has additional M&A investment banking experience from his time at J.P. Morgan and Stifel. Jonathan received a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems with a minor in Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Max Felix joined in 2022 from Bloom Energy where he specialized in project finance and corporate development. Previously, he was at Goldin Associates. He received a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.

Adam Luna joined in 2022 from Allstate Investments where he specialized in infrastructure investments. Previously, he was an Energy M&A Analyst in the Global Investment Banking & Markets Division of Scotiabank. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration with double majors in the Canfield Business Honors Program and in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.

Jacob Silbermann joined in 2021 from Brown Gibbons Lang & Company where he was an investment banking senior analyst in the Environmental & Industrial Services group focused on middle market M&A transactions.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Miami University.

Mary Zhu joined AIMPERA in 2023 from The Production Board where she supported the CEO. Previously, she was on the CEO’s team at ICONIQ and was a Project Manager within the Industrials, Global Financial Officers, and Luxury Goods practice at Russell Reynolds Associates. Mary started her finance career as a Fixed Income Analyst at GIC in New York. Mary received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Smith College.
